RugGear devices deployed by the Misiones Provincial Police in Argentina
The Police of the Province of Misiones needed to update and optimise its integrated communication system for its field Police officers.
This is part of a wider plan to modernize the technology of first responders/blue lights and optimize the use of the Police human resources.
What was the problem faced?
The Police of the Province of Misiones saw the need to update the current equipment that felt obsolete.
The requirements for the selection of new devices were set up simply. The main elements to influence the choice were:
- Geo-localisation and
- SOS button
to increase the prevention of accidents and improve the response time across the whole province.
Furthermore, the devices needed to be compatible with the Telecom Argentina PTT solutions XIRIUS Push to Talk.
What devices to employ?
The Police of the Argentinian Province of Misiones chose to deploy 500 RugGear RG725 smartphones.
RugGear was chosen because of the advanced technology that allowed for live Geo-Localisation, enabling a faster 911 response.
Moreover, the keys for faster emergency communication allow for better and more efficient police daily operations.
RG725 smartphones are fully integrated in the S.I.Co.P (the integrated system for police communication), for a more agile and efficient communication between police forces on the field and the 911 operators.
Furthermore, the plan is to extend the use of the RugGear smartphones to the units in the entire province.
Why RugGear?
The product design of RugGear smartphones is what made the RG725 the preferred choice for this PTT implementation.
Unlike consumer devices, the RugGear smartphones are designed for critical and emergency communication.
The rotating knob facilitates channel selection, while the rugged credentials help with the use of the PTT phone in harsh environments – the devices can be exposed to any kind of weather without compromising functionalities.
Furthermore, the power of RugGear’s loudspeakers simplifies communication in noisy environments while the large battery capacity allows for long working hours.
The features that are used the most are:
- The PTT key, located on the side of the phones, facilitates instant communication via XIRIUS Push to Talk, and
- The geo-location – the RG725 supports GPS, A-GPS, and GLONASS, enabling the location of all agents and assuring their safety at all times.
To guarantee uninterrupted Push -to-Talk instant communication, all users of the RG725 have been supplied with a 13-pin PTT RSM. The accessory is secured to the phones using screws, so that the RSM cannot be easily unplugged by sudden movements, for instance while chasing or detaining suspects.
Single desktop chargers have been selected to recharge the device for the Police of Misiones. The desktop chargers can recharge the phone and also a spare battery. Agents can carry a fully charged spare battery during shifts and quickly replace it to avoid interruptions.
