StarHub and Smart PTT solutions for Mission Critical on MTK processors

Among its products, StarHub SmartPTT solution for Mission Critical communication is designed to be compliant with the 3GPP protocol and guarantees efficient communication across business and front-line operations.
StarHub has been looking for an entry level device to introduce into its portfolio.
The choice fell on the RG360. The requirement was that the devices needed to be able to manage a double APN (access point name) setup.
This configuration was required for the devices to be able to handle:
- on APN one, the standard internet connection
- on APN two, route the MC PTT communication
the reasoning behind this is that, to guarantee quality of service, StarHub assigns priority to its SmartPTT users, even when the network is congested.
StarHub and RugGear
In order to implement the RG360 into the network, RugGear and StarHub worked on developing a software solution, to allow the double APN set up on MTK processors, that are those powering these RugGear devices. Multi APN set up on MediaTek processors hasn’t been attempted many times before, but RugGear has demonstrated the wide capability of its Research and Development team.
Furthermore, the capability that the RG360 has to be used with StarHub SmartPTT platform to perform Push-to-Video operation has been an added benefit. This is a first-of-its-kind offering in Singapore. With a single press of the PTT button, first responder or PTT users are able to stream live video to the command centre.
Future projects
With one solution already working and being deployed among customers/users, RugGear and StarHub are working on their next project together.
The RG655 has been selected as the next device to be deployed to StarHub’s network and become Mission Critical capable.
